The Rocky Mountain Goat occurs from Wyoming to Alaska and is not (despite the name) a true goat, but more closely related to the Alpine antelope known as the Chamois (Rupicapra rupicapra) of southern & central Europe. Like the Bighorn Sheep (Ovis canadensis) it occurs in mountainous regions, often at higher elevations (to 11,000 feet above sea level) where they maintain their sure-footedness courtesy of suction-shaped hooves.

The Bighorn Sheep inhabits mountainous parts (The Rockies, the Cascades, Sierra Nevada...) of western North America from Canada to northern Mexico, occurring at elevations of 3,000-8,000 feet above sea level. When winter sets in they move to lower elevations to forage (graze), wary of predators such as grizzly & black bears, mountain lions, timber wolves, coyotes, and golden eagles.

Also called "Asian Unicorn" because its paired horns appear as one in profile, this antelope species occurs only in Laos and northwestern Vietnam. Circa 750 individuals are estimated to remain in the wild. While the indigenous population has no doubt been aware of these elusive creatures for a long time, they were unknown to western zoologists before 1992! The dark reddish- brown (with white markings) coat is somewhat reminiscent of an Okapi's (Okapia johnstoni), which was "discovered" only 90 years before that in the Congo Basin of Central Africa. Whereas the Mongolian Wild Horse is a grazer, the Saola is typically a browser (leaf-eater) inhabiting rainforests and mountain foothills.
